Ease of doing business takes center stage at Made-In-Nigeria Festival

In line with the quest to make Nigeria a favoured destination for foreign direct investments, organizers of the Made-In-Nigeria (MaIN) Festival, are putting together activities to promote the ease of doing business in Nigeria on the front burner of discourse.

These and many other subjects would form the basis of a special: “Ease of Doing Business session” that will take place at the Made In Nigeria (MaIN) Summit – a component of MaIN Festival taking place from September 23rd – October 1st, 2016 at Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Island, Lagos. Over 600 delegates are billed to attend the summit that would run from September 26-29.

The session, which seeks to promote the ease of doing business in Nigeria, would feature updates from various agencies and local, state and federal government functionaries, while providing a platform for the private sector to share their experiences. A special investment desk and one-stop-shop will also be provided for intending investors to obtain information, documentation and advice on establishing or expanding their businesses in Nigeria.

Underscoring the need to promote and sustain initiatives that would ensure the ease of doing business in Nigeria, MaIN Group – organizers of MaIN Festival – in a statement, revealed:

“Economic development, growth and prosperity can only occur where there is an environment that supports both foreign and domestic investment.”

These investments, it added:

“are expected to occur in a hyper-competitive global economic environment where countries and their citizens compete for limited resources available to investors. Naturally, investors will most likely gravitate towards those economies that offer them the best value for money and economies that are backed by well researched legislation, policies as well as strong and transparent institutions.

“The policies that make it easy for people to transact their legitimate business without hassle or political interference are perhaps the greatest indicator that a country is ready and open to growing its economy.”

Nigeria, the MaIN Group noted, currently ranks 169 in the index of doing business in the world, with Rwanda taking the top berth in Africa. The group commended the current administration for taking concrete steps to address the issue.

“Since the advent of this new administration, various steps have been taken to reduce the bottlenecks and challenges foreign and domestic investors face with doing business in Nigeria,” it observed. Nonetheless, it stressed, a great deal, still has to be done to improve investor confidence in Nigeria’s economy and drive the kinds of investments that would radically transform the nation’s economic fortunes.

With the theme: “Innovate. Connect. Power The Future”, MaIN Festival, is an international festival of ideas, designed to stimulate the economy and bring the world to Nigeria to explore and engage the best it has to offer – in five key sectors. They are: Power & Infrastructure, Agriculture, Technology, Manufacturing and Sports & Entertainment.

The Made In Nigeria Festival is being organized by the MaIN Group, a collaboration of private sector organisations. Board of Advisors of the initiative include: Prince Adesegun Oniru, Mr. Aliko Dangote, Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Okoli, Mr. Ronald Chagoury, and Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

'Sex with him was hot, he has the body of a champion but his male parts don't match'- Usain Bolt's Rio student lover says

Jady Duarte, the girl who shared snaps of Usain Bolt cuddling and kissing her in bed while in Rio during his birthday celebrations has now revealed that the Olympic champion wooed her after flashing his toned muscles and six packs but that 'down there' he's not really as endowed as everyone thinks.

Jady also revealed that he doesn't speak Portuguese, so he had to use google translate to communicate with her and whisked her into his hotel room in the games village using a team bus.

According to her, they allegedly made love in a small single bed, while listening to Rihanna's 'Work work' and the sex reportedly lasted over two one-hour sessions.

According to Jady they met in Rio's upmarket club All In, and Bolt made his way over to her group of friends, before he flashed his impressive six-pack.

"He was stood in front of us and suddenly he pulled up his shirt and showed us his six pack,"  Jady, Mother of two told Mail Online. "I had never seen anything like it. I just had to reach out and stroke it."

Bolt then reportedly asked his bodyguard to invite her over to join him, and while she was hesitant at first, she eventually met him again at the end of the night.

'He's dark, tall, muscly - just my type - but there were so many beautiful girls there I never imagined I would be the one. The bodyguard said Bolt wants you to come over. I didn't go at first because I was playing hard to get. Most girls would go over there like a shot but I wanted to make him work. When I was waiting in line to pay at the end of the night he sent the bodyguard over again. He said "why are you not following him? This is Usain Bolt".

But the pair bypassed security by hopping on to an official bus that was quickly waved through the gates.

'They never asked me for any sort of pass or my ID,' said the young Brazilian beauty. They didn't even question him, I guess, because he's Bolt. We had two other guys with us and I think they were athletes because they also had muscly, fit bodies.I was surprised that he didn't take me to an expensive hotel but I didn't pay much attention because we were kissing the entire way.

'The room was tidy but he had two single beds and they were so small that his feet must have been poking out the end when he slept.'

'It was mainly just small talk and him telling me how beautiful I was,' she said. 'We used Google but I didn't need a translator to tell me that he wanted sex.

"Finally we were waiting in line for a taxi and he smiled at me and did the famous victory pose so I was in no doubt who he was," she added. "That's was when I decided it was time to give in to him. He pulled me into the taxi and gave me an incredible kiss. It was very passionate and hot - we were devouring one another. He has the body of a champion although his male parts do not match - he is just like a regular guy," she claimed.

She claims Bolt then gave her a 100 Euro bank note to get a taxi, and promised to call her to arrange another date during the Paralympics.

"I really thought we had something going, But now I can see that he picks up women as quickly as he picks up gold medals. I knew who he was from TV. My mother has been screaming during all his races because she's such a huge fan,'

American University in Afghanistan currently under attack, lecturers and students take cover

Exchange of gunfire between armed policemen and attackers happened a few minutes ago at the American University in Afghanistan. Police and special forces have now surrounded the campus on the western outskirts of Afghanistan's capital city and are trying to ensure no student or innocent person gets hurt. Teachers and hundreds of students have taken cover in classrooms and safe rooms.

The identity of the attackers is unknown while the number of students and lecturers inside the university at the moment is currently unknown.

The U.S. State Department this morning (evening Nigerian time) acknowledged reports of the attack on their official Twitter account.

"Reports of attack on American University in Kabul. Exercise caution, avoid unnecessary movement in the area & monitor news for updates," the agency said.

Massoud Hossaini, a photographer for The Associated Press, tweeted that he is trapped inside.

“Help we are stuck inside AUAF and shooting flollowed [sic] by Explo this maybe my last tweets,” he wrote.

The gunfire as at press time has stopped but police forces are still sweeping the area. This attack comes weeks after lecturers were kidnapped from the university. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Betty Irabor writes about women in abusive relationships...and Maje Ayida tells her to also talk about men in abusive relationships

Yesterday, Genevieve Magazine publisher Betty Irabor took to her IG page to write about women in abusive relationship and why it's important for them to get out! An interesting & eye opening piece.

But what caught our eye was a comment from Toke Makinwa's ex-husband, Maje Ayida. He asked Mrs Irabor to also share her views on men in abusive relationships. Trying to tell us something? Read the rest of what Betty Irabor wrote and Maje's comment after the cut...

As they left, the husband jeered shouting; "old cargo, you and your children will soon come back begging, which man will look at you?" But this young lady had had enough and was determined never to return. She braced up to become a breadwinner and joined her sister in her factory. It was while working in this factory that she met a man(he'd never been married)who fell in love with her and married her along with her 3 children. Old cargo???So who was chuckling???

Women in abusive relationships face a lot of emotional manipulation which stops them from leaving. They are told they are useless and nobody will look at them. On their own, they are afraid of the unknown world ahead. They worry about the judgement of society and the stigma of being single mothers. The result is they "hang In there" until they they become profile pictures and Internet stories of another woman butchered by her husband.

Every woman in an abusive relationships needs to realize that being married by fire by force is not whAt true marriage is about... It is nothing short of self delusion to manage a bad relationship just to please society. You have to know your worth and believe that you are deserving of more. You are not an old cargo!! There's life after one bad marriage! Your self worth is not tied to one bad choice you made in a marriage partner. When you have the grace to move on, do move on. You deserve more.

An 18–seater, locally-made bus manufactured by ex-Niger Delta militants, who trained at Innoson Kiara Academy, a branch of Innoson Motor Manufacturing Company, Nnewi, Anambra state, has been presented to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The bus was presented at the graduation ceremony of 120 ex-Niger Delta militants at Innoson Motors Academy.  The former militants got training in different specialties across the auto mobile industry, from auto mechanics, auto electrical, auto welding, auto painting and spraying, heavy duty truck maintenance, ICT, engineering drawing, entrepreneurial as well as interpersonal relationship to sustain their eventual businesses in that industry.

The locally made vehicle, was put for public view during the ceremony and the youths expressed gratitude to the federal government for the privilege given to them to obtain skills that have improved their lives.

The Special Adviser on Amnesty Programme, General Paul Boroh (rtd), who presented the youths with their certificates at the graduation ceremony said, the Presidential Amnesty Programme would partner Innoson Motors to make sure all the youths were totally established, so that they could play their own role towards building a greater Nigeria.

The management of the indigenous motor manufacturing company, had earlier, vowed to employ the graduating youths, based on the quality of expertise they have obtained.

The Presidential aide, Boro who inaugurated the training nine months ago, advised the trainees saying: “You have been on this training for nine months and we hope you are well –equipped now. The skills you have acquired will never be allowed to waste even a day.”

“It is not easy to employ people these days and that is why we are grateful to Chief Innocent Chukwuma for promising to employ all those who are interested in working in the company. “Having learnt the job, you are on your way towards becoming successful entrepreneurs. Modalities for the formation of the clusters where you will practice what you have learnt are already out.”

The special adviser on Niger Delta matters, likewise, said the trainees would be motivated to establish cooperative societies in order for them to get better reward for their efforts.

A two-year old baby stolen by a house help in Nairobi’s Imara Daima estate was on Monday, August 22, rescued at the Busia border.

Baby Kaity Amanda was rescued five days after she was allegedly stolen by house help, Jessica Nawire - a Ugandan national, on August 17.

The rescue was as a result of concerted efforts between the Kenya and Ugandan police and the Protective and Safety Association of Kenya (PROSAK)

It is reported that the house-girl had already crossed the border into Uganda but rapid efforts by the rescue teams ensured her capture. Nawire is now being held at a police post in Busia.

PROSAK chairman, Enock Makanga, appreciated the role of inter-agency support saying that only in working together can such cases be arrested early. He has also warned parents to be extra careful on the persons they leave their children with.

"Do not engage any house help without a simple background check. Have full details of your house help or house employees and get at least three references before you hire,” Makanga said.
